I don't know yet.

I first want to know what GW2 has to offer. I wanna see screenshots, video's and read about it before I buy a game that changes many things in a way that makes people leave.

Most important, I must have that undescribable GW-feeling when I see/play it! If I don't get such a feeling then it's /fail and I buy a Playstation 3 + Final Fantasy XIII.

Not as big as you think. Don't forget that once your registered on Guru you can't delete your account, so the members count is very misleading.

I know 2 "big" GW forums. One is GWG, the other one is GWOnline. These are also forums where the GW devs have their account and sometimes "talk". Any more? What other forums might represent GW community?
People who don't voice their opinion don't have the right to whine if something changes.

They are also the same people whom play the game and don't complain. Are they right or wrong, who are we to say?

As far as I'm concerned any one who PLAYS GW is part of the GW community, whether they chose to join a fan site or not.

That is my biggest grip with people here on Guru, a small % of the player base trying to act as self appointed representativs of all players.

When those people move on to other games GW will be much better off.

But not everyone who plays GW is a member of vocal gw community, so AN can't know what they're thinking. You don't know opinions of someone who doesn't talk.

How do you know GWG is a small % of the vocal community? First you'd have to know how big is GW vocal community.

Yeah, it's not like the community had some good ideas (how to improve the game, fix skills etc) and AN totally ditched them, right?

And what says that AN would not have done better without the community input? One mans good ideas is another mans idea of crap.

I SAID VOCAL COMMUNITY, VOCAL PEOPLE TALK. PEOPLE WHO ARE SILENT DON'T TALK.
If the rest is too lazy to voice their opinion then it shouldn't matter since no matter what path AN takes, it will please them. And if not, it's their own fault for not voicing their opinions.

@Stockholm: You argue that all the games sold and active members mean it's a good game? Hellgate:London hit record sales on its release in Korea, and I don't think anyone would argue that is a worthy successor to Diablo 2.

As far as listening to the forums, it isn't from blind faith that the opinions given on the forums are God. How else would you suggest they get opinions of people playing the game: on General Chat? A read of LA AD1 shows the huge fail of that idea. A "forum" is where people meet to discuss public business, or in the case of GW, Guild Wars business. As mentioned before, the devs come on with their own accounts to guru and GWO to test the waters. You will see a lot of correlation, if you read them, between certain buffs and nerfs and opinions voiced on the forums. It's arguable that the skill split and PvE skills were from opinions voiced about the affects of PvP adjustments on PvE. The devs don't have time enough to play this game long enough to see how well things work over time. Forums give them a window into the game, without affecting time spent doing their job: keeping the game working.

The "vocal minority" are also the ones who are the best word of mouth to advance a game. If a sizable group of that minority has a negative view, or if you don't listen to that group, they will have a low opinion of the next thing you produce. When you go into something with a negative view, that affects what you see. People are just voicing that they feel the direction a part of the game, PvE, has taken has changed the structure of the game from what got them interested in the game. The whole part of the PvE side, before, was to build a character up with skills and training, going through a paced storyline, to a level which they would be ready to start in PvP. You can't say PvE challenges you that way, now.

That being said, yeah, we voice our disappointments on how the game has gone, and post in this thread our disagreements, but we all know, if we're honest, that Anet has created their niche out of a simple formula:free to play. They don't need to create a game better than any out there. If it's decent, the animation is good, and it looks pretty, they will SELL GAMES. In large numbers. We're lucky they have enough of a conscience to have CR that post regular on the forums and listen(whatever your opinion of the later). The new game will be free to play, probably start out all in Tyria, and expand, like Wow did with Burning Crusade/Lich King, into Elona and Cantha. It will look great and be good enough to justify dumping 50 bucks a pop.

Just terrible. Just terrible. Never compare that crapfest Hellgate with the gem that is Diablo. The asian market loves to grind mindlessly no matter how bad other parts of the game are. You should of read the article released by the one of the Devs on Hellgate on how bad it really is.

Will I buy it: Possibly. It will depend on a number of things, more so depending on real life things that my wife and I are planning will depend on if I decide to invest the time into GW2 or if I even buy it.

So my choice was I'm enjoying sitting on the fence.

When ArenaNet convinces me that the game actually exists, I'll consider it. Until then, it's a myth to me.

Hey, if it turns out to be bad we can always ask the "Will It Blend?" dude to deal with it for us.

i will be. i still enjoy the game, and all the friends i made within it and guided to it will be joining GW2, so it's only natural for me to progress onto it.

as disappointed as i have been about some of the things anet have done to the game, overall, i still enjoy it and am looking forward to seeing what they do with GW2... though some press release, general info, even some screenshots would be fantastic...

How much content will be in GW2? Will it be WoW big or Prophecies big? Will it look like Guild Wars, WoW, or AoC? The more I think about it. The scarier it becomes.

What made me lawl at that post is that you made the point of saying only 5,000 people are still active on here - while of the supposed "5 million copies" how many of those are:
1. Secondary accounts
2. Still active

I know people that have 4-5 accounts. Also 75% of the people I know that played GW no longer play. Only a few are left.

Anyway - I am going to wait and see how it looks before buying.

I make all my buying decisions long before the products I'm discussing actually come out! Yay! I'm a fool!

If it were coming out soon, probably not, just because I'm kind of fed up with MMOs in general. Just quit WoW for the third time because it's just a damn boring game for anything more than a month. And, really, there isn't anything else out now that looks interesting. Eve is neat, but CCP is crooked. LOTRO is cool, but the spam and RMT problem is just insane. EQII is dead in the water. AoC is the same old crap with a little gimmick on top.

Meh. We'll see what Warhammer offers, I guess...
